Our friends at Comingsoon.net tell us that Universal Studios and Legendary confirmed reports that Pacific Rim 2 had been delayed despite earlier stories to the contrary that Guillermo Del Toro was preparing a script for submission. However Del Toro tweeted something recently that has fans both excited for a particular Game Of Thrones actress he would like to have in the movie, but also scratching their heads in the wording of the tweet.
Had lunch with Maisie Williams yesterday. Remarkable. Dammit- if PR2 happens, that girl is getting a Jaeger.

With the wording if PR2 happens people are now beginning to wonder if perhaps the acclaimed director initially spoke too soon regarding Pacific Rim 2 being a sure thing. Nonetheless, the fact that Del Toro wants Williams to appear just goes to show the kind of power and charm this young star exudes as she’s already scheduled to be in two episodes of Doctor Who for its 9th season, not to mention returning for the 6th season of Game Of Thrones.
Pacific Rim 2 was originally scheduled for release on April 7, 2017 before being pushed to August 4, 2017 and ultimately removed from the calendar altogether. In a statement, Universal declared they were “committed to having ‘Pacific Rim 2,’” but that the delay was needed so the “creative team can continue in its efforts to exceed the amazing experience of the first film.”
Pacific Rim hit theaters in summer 2013 and grossed just $101 million at the domestic box office but went on to take in over $400 million worldwide. The original film starred Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day, Robert Kazinsky, Max Martini, and Ron Perlman.
