Class is an eight part mini-series from author Patrick Ness, and it will be airing in the UK on BBC3. The series will have Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin as show runners, and is a joint production between BBC America and BBC Wales.
“I’m astounded and thrilled to be entering the Doctor Who universe, which is as vast as time and space itself. I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of Class, to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your exams.”
Class will follow students at Coal Hill Secondary School, a school with a history in Doctor Who lore. Several of the Doctor’s past companions have been employees of the school, and his granddaughter was a pupil. The Doctor himself has even been involved with the school at time.
Coal Hill factored significantly into Series 8 of the show, Peter Capaldi’s first as the Doctor. Both Clara Oswald and Danny Pink worked as teachers there, and the students found themselves caught up in some of the Doctor’s adventures.
Will you be watching Class, or is the premise not strong enough to grab your attention? Should Moffat step down from all things Doctor Who? Is there a potential for not only strong universe building, but possibly strong universe connecting storylines to classic Doctor Who?
