“Big Hero 6” to come as series on Disney XD

BIG HERO 6Are you a fan of Big Hero 6? Do you wish to further enjoy the misadventures and heroics of Hiro, Baymax, and the rest of the team? Well get set because you’re about to as ComingSoon.net is reporting that the Walt Disney Company has decided, instead of going for a full blown theatrical sequel, that they would produce a TV series instead and have it debut on Disney XD in 2017.

This series is currently in production, and will pick up pretty much where the movie left off in the fictional, and somewhat mashed up, city of San Fransokyo where Hiro is enrolled in the Institute of Technology. Having it as a series can also allow for possibly more “mundane” stories to be told, such as Hiro being one of the youngest students on the campus and all of the trials he will have to deal with. Of course it wouldn’t be Big Hero 6 if there weren’t some dangers and threats that Hiro and his friends will have to go up against.

Luckily for us, the character of Hiro isn’t the only one returning, as the series will also bring back his battling comrades; Wasabi, Honey Lemon, Fred, GoGo, and of course Baymax will all be returning.

In a statement from Disney Channels Worldwide president Gary Marsh, he said:

“Our colleagues at Walt Disney Animation Studios have created a brilliant new world, inspired by Marvel, with vivid, unique characters. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world class animated series — full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob — and Baymax — can deliver.”

Big Hero 6 won the Best Animated Feature Film at the Academy Awards and was a box office success by bringing in globally over $650 million dollars at the box office. The series will have Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley (Kim Possible) and Nick Filippi serve as executive producers.
