Academy Award winner Halle Berry is currently in talks to appear in 20th Century Fox’s sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service. The movie, which is an adaptation of a comic book by Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons, was a surprising hit, and now Deadline is reporting that Berry may be signed to a two picture deal that might have her play the head of the CIA. ComingSoon.net reports that Julianne Moore is also in discussion to play the villain in the sequel.
Kingsman: The Secret Service was directed by Matthew Vaughn and took in $414.4 million worldwide. Given the surprise nature of this unexpected hit it appears that 20th Century Fox has decided to hand Vaughn the reigns to the Kingsman 2, which will make for the first sequel he has ever directed.
The first movie primarily took place in England, but given Berry’s possible presence as head of the CIA it is believed that the next film will primarily take place in the USA. It had also been previously reported that Colin Firth would return for the sequel (despite circumstances in the movie suggesting otherwise), either as a brother or in a flashback, but those ideas have been dismissed and Firth will apparently not be in the next film.
Kingsman: The Secret Service 2 is presently scheduled for a June 16, 2017 release date.
Did you see the first Kingsman, and if so, are you pleased that there are plans for a sequel?
