While the film adaptation of the book Ready Player One isn’t due out until 2018, the casting machine is already at work for a production start date this June. We here at TG2 Studios had already reported on Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One has cast Tye Sheridan in lead role, and in a story from The Hollywood Reporter it has been learned that sci-fi fan favorite actor, and co-writer for the upcoming Star Trek Beyond, Simon Pegg is currently in negotiations to join the cast of Steven Spielberg’s huge science fiction epic.
The film, which is a co-production between Warner Bros and Village Roadshow is an adaptation of the best-selling novel by Ernest Cline which is set in the year 2044, where amidst an inhospitable Earth people find escape in the ultimate virtual reality known as OASIS (for more information about the book please check out our review Ready Player One – A Geek Manual for 80’s Pop Culture). As mentioned above, Tye Sheridan has been cast in the role of Wade Watts/Parzival, Olivia Cooke as Samantha Cooke/Art3mis, Ben Mendelsohn as Nolan Sorrento, and Simon Pegg will be playing co-creator of OASIS, Ogden Morrow (in the book the character’s name is Ogden, but multiple news sites as well as iMDb are listing the character as Orgen).
Ready Player One is being produced by Spielberg via his Amblin Partners banner, along with Donald De Line, Kristie Macosko Krieger and Dan Farah.
Pegg last co-starred in Mission: Impossible — Rogue Nation. Ready Player One opens March 30, 2018.
