While the superhero movie genre has been dominated largely between Marvel and DC properties, Deadline is reporting that MGM hopes to stake its own claim with a movie titled Rising Stars, which is created by J. Michael Straczynski of Babylon 5 and Sense8. Straczynski, who had a hand in writing for movies Thor and World War Z will be penning this screenplay.
Rising Stars is about 113 people who have superpowers after being born during some special celestial event (Does this ring of Heroes?), and the comic book dealt with such issues as how they were able to interact with society. Despite its familiarity, MGM appears to be extremely excited in seeing this turned into a film adaptable. You totally get why MGM would want to make it into a film.
Despite Straczynski’s successful track record, does this ring too much like Heroes to you for it to be made into a film? Do you think Straczynski’s track record speaks or itself? Have you ever read any issues of Rising Stars?
